The Legal Protections of Chinese Style Democracy

Abstract: Upholding the leadership of the CPC, putting people first and governing China on the basis of law are three core principles of Chinese style democracy. The legal practices of Chinese style democracy are mainly reflected in adopting the people's democratic dictatorship and the system of people's congresses, upholding and improving the system of multi-party cooperation and political consultation under the leadership of the CPC, strengthening and expanding the broadest possible patriotic united front, and adhering to the system of regional ethnic autonomy and the system of primary-level self-governance. Looking to the future, this article argues that China should set the rule of law evaluation standards of whether or not the people enjoy extensive rights and are part of the efforts to advance rule of law, the country is governed efficiently, social stability and harmony prevail, and there is effective constraint and supervision of the exercise of power, so as to constantly promote and optimize Chinese style democracy.
